Introduction to Boulogne
Boulogne sur Mer is the largest fishing port in France. This charming maritime town is an ideal day trip destination due to it's proximity to Calais, the most popular entrance point for cross Channel travellers.
Boulogne has a large sandy beach which is especially popular in the Summer months. The beach is popular with kite fliers and for wind sailing. If you are travelling with children, there are trampolines and a playground to help keep them occupied.
The town also boast several attractions in and around the town, ranging from the Nausicaa Aquarium to historic sites like the Belfry and Cathédrale de Notre-Dame.
Things to Do
- Stroll along the promenade and relax on the long stretch of sandy beach in Boulogne.
- Relax outside one of the numerous cafes in Place Dalton, a square in the centre of Boulogne, and enjoy the view of the Church of St Nicholas.
- Visit the Cathédrale de Notre-Dame and view the crypts, some of which date back to the 7th Century.
- Take a trip to the Nausicaa Aquarium. See the jellyfish, watch the sea lion show and learn about maritime environments in this fantastic oceanarium.
- Visit Les Ramparts. Boulogne is surrounded by the medieval walls built in the 13th century. They are one of the best-kept medieval sites in Northern France.

by Car from Calais
From Calais, take the A16 Westbound, signposted Boulogne. Leave the A16 at Junction 31 or 32 and follow the signs to the town centre. There are numerous car parks available around the town centre.
